This record contains two pieces by Bela Bartok. The first is Contrasts, a 1938 composition. It is based on Hungarian and Romanian dance melodies and has three movements with a combined duration of 17–20 minutes. Bartók wrote the work in response to a letter from violinist Joseph Szigeti, although it was officially commissioned by clarinetist Benny Goodman. The piece was written for piano, violin, and clarinet, and here is played by Edith Farnadi on piano; Andre Gertler on violin; and Alfred Prinz on clarinet. The second piece on the record is Sonata For Two Pianos And Percussion. The sonata was premiered by Bartók and his second wife, Ditta Pasztory-Bartok, with the percussionists Fritz Schiesser and Philipp Rühlig in 1938. It has since become one of Bartók's most performed works. Here it is played with Edith Farnadi and Istvan Antal on piano and J. Schwartz and O. Schwartz on percussion. This record and its sleeve are both in Very Good Plus condtion.
