Stan Freberg was an American actor, author, comedian, musician, puppeteer, radio personality, and advertising creative director. Freberg was one of the talents recruited by Capitol Records when it launched its spoken-word division. He began on February 10, 1951, and produced satirical recordings about popular culture. One hit record that received the Freberg treatment was Johnnie Ray's weepy "Cry," which Freberg rendered as Try, this single, exaggerating Ray's histrionic vocal style. Johnnie Ray was furious until he realized the success of Freberg's 1952 parody was actually increasing sales and airplay of his own record. Freberg reported getting more angry feedback for this than from any of his other parodies. This copy of the single is in Very Good Plus condition, and comes with a nifty original Capitol Records sleeve.
